How much do animal specimens cost vs. alternatives?

A pail of 10 frogs are approx. $5.00 each frogs which is used by two students. Cost per 30 students is approx $75.00 ($5x15).

A pail of 100 cow’s eyeballs costs $257.00 or $23.50 for a vacuum pack of 10. The vacuum pack only lasts a year whereas the pail will last much longer. Cost per 30 students is $77.

A fetal pig will cost between $16.40 to $25.00. One pig will be used for three students. So the cost is around $7 per student. (Pigs may have veins or arteries or both injected). Cost for 30 students is $210.

Costs can be cheaper for available alternatives since the software can be used year after year. A 10 CD pack of Digital Frog costs $599 and lasts for years. A school also has the option to purchase a building site license, which is unlimited, for $899. Some companies offer CD ROMS to schools free of charge for a trial period or offer various discounts and other incentives.

Aren't animals bred for the purpose of dissection?

Breeding animals for certain purposes may help us feel better about mistreating them, but it doesn't change the animals biological ability to feel pain and fear.

Each year millions of animals such as frogs, cats, pigs, fish, rabbits, dogs, rats, earthworms and grasshoppers are killed for dissection. Rabbits, cats and dogs are sometimes stolen from backyards, bought from pet stores, animal dealers, breeders, shelters and biological supply companies. Pigs and sheep are purchased from slaughterhouses and frogs are sometimes stolen from their habitat. Does it really matter where they come from?
