The Vancouver School Board pays about $5 per frog, which is shared between two students. That's about $75 per class of 30 students.

A pail of cow eyes costs $257. The cost per 30 students is $77, halved if two students can share an eye.

Fetal pigs can cost $16 and $25 per pig. One pig is typically shared among three students, with the cost for 30 students about $210.

The board procures animals for dissection from Victoria-based Northwest Scientific Supply Ltd.

The frogs come from U.S. and Mexican "collectors."

Fetal pigs and cow eyes come from slaughterhouses, and the rats are usually bred for scientific use.
