Students in the Central Okanagan may soon have more choice to accept or decline certain aspects of their education.

A plan by School District 23 to look at a student's decision to participate in animal dissection, turned into a discussion about choice in general.

Trustee Cheryl Wiebe says the issue of animal dissection just got the ball rolling. Wiebe says a student's choice not to participate because of religion, beliefs or creed shouldn't impact their letter grade so for the board to look at 'choice' and opportunity and option in the curriculum is the right way to go.

Wiebe says the student choice curriculum issue will be referred to the board's General Affairs Committee for further discussion and consultation.

The Board currently follows provincial guidelines giving students the choice to participate in dissections.
