Dissection Option, Canadian Geographic Magazine
Sept/Oct 2006
(page 30)
A rite of passage for generations of science students - the frog dissection
- has been lambasted by animal-rights groups in recent years for its
unnecessary waste of life. As a result, the Vancouver Humane Society
launched the "Frogs Are Cool" website (www.frogsarecool.com) to let young
people know they can - and in the society's opinion, should - opt for more
ethical means of learning about frog innards, such as plastic models, books,
CD ROMSs and websites. Since the website's launch in January 2005,
Vancouver, Kelowna B.C., and Toronto have all adopted policies that give
students the choice to dissect or not to dissect.
